Maya is a hula hooper and circus artist from St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up, she was a member of the youth acrobatics troupe the St. Louis Arches, and performed shows every weekend in the ring at Circus Harmony. She became a strong generalist, and quickly discovered her knack for object manipulation and, specifically, hula hoops.
She went on to study at Circadium School of Contemporary Circus. In the program she studied hula hoops through the lens of improvisation, character work, and innovation. And in 2021, graduated with a half choreographed, half improvised act.
She has since showcased her work at Le Monastére, Mondo Juggling Festival, and on tour with Hideaway Circus’ Canvas Sky, as well as performing her one woman show Hoopla in her home circus’ ring over 60 times.
With her background in traditional circus and a higher education in contemporary circus Maya has a wide array of performance modes and expertise in her back pocket. Her combination of impressive skills, unique sequences, and character work brings a magnetic and personable feel to any show she’s in.
